Eckhart Tolle and The Power of Now

Now and then you come across something that totally resonates and explains so much about what you are. For me, one of these things was Eckhart Tolle's simple but profound book The Power of Now.

The book is an effective guide to moving from a state of living under the tyranny of the mind to a state of inner peace and bliss.

It can be thought of as the Tao Teh Ching for the modern world.

Eckhart Tolle is a modern exponent of the ancient way, a living Buddha in our time.

After his experience of the true nature of existence, Eckhart Tolle left his job in Cambridge and became penniless and slept on park benches around Tavistock Square in London in a state of absolute bliss for several years.

I used to live in Bloomsbury at the same time. I too used to sit on benches and under trees practising my chi gung breathing and keeping an eye open for a pretty girl to chat up! But I never saw Eckhart! People that did see him asked him to give them what he had! Eckhart responded "you already have it, but your mind is making too much noise, so you don't see it".

Eckhart no longer sleeps on benches, but teaches others how to have the same state of pure bliss.

Eckhart says that his task is to be a nobody, that is to be without an ego, nothing that you can label.

Amongst Eckhart Tolle's grateful readers are Gillian Anderson of The X Files; Cher, who says he "has changed my life"; and Meg Ryan, who introduced Oprah Winfrey to Tolle's first book, The Power of Now: A Spiritual Guide to Enlightenment.

Oprah's recommendation helped his book become an international best-seller.
